In some projects, the aim is to create a functionally identical replacement that allows the customer to continue supplying the same product with minimal disruption. In others, the redesign is an opportunity to improve the product, reduce cost, update components, improve manufacturability, or add new features.

For customers locked into an existing production arrangement, a redesign can also create a route to significantly lower manufacturing costs.
