What is an FPGA? By itself, it does nothing. But designers of electronics love them because this device allows integrated circuit designs to be reconfigured (or reprogrammed) as many times as required after manufacture. (This can even happen in the field). This permits fantastic flexibility and power, whilst also allowing impressive control over the hardware. FPGA development creates highly parallel, high-performance systems in applications like communications, signal processing, embedded systems, and digital circuits.

FPGA modules have previously been used in applications such as satellites, rockets, and other aerospace projects, due to their reliability and ability to be updated in the field.
